BMI Calculator

Body Mass Index (BMI) is one method to gain an indication if your weight to height ratio is within acceptable health risk parameters.  The assessment of your BMI also takes into account your frame-size.  The reason for including frame-size is that obviously bone structures vary in size and density from person to person. Equally men and women have different structures.

One quick method to establish your frame size is by placing your thumb and index finger (not middle-finger) around your wrist.  If your index finger and thumb touch, you have an average frame-size.  If they overlap, your frame-size is smaller than average and if they do not touch you have a larger than average frame-size.

A more scientific, yet straight forward method to establish frame-size is by measuring the circumference of your wrist. according to the following table(s).

 Female Wrist Measurements Height less than 5' 2" (Less than 155cms) Height 5' 2" - 5' 5" (155cms - 163cms) Height more than 5' 5" (More than 163cms) Small Less than 5.5" (140mm) Less than 6.0" (152mm) Less than 6.25" (159mm) Average 5.5" - 5.75" (140 - 146mm) 6" - 6.25" (152 - 159mms) 6.25" - 6.5" (159 - 165mm) Large More than 5.75" (146mm) More than 6.25" (159mm) More than 6.5" (165mm)

 Male Wrist Measurements Height more than 5' 5" (More than 163cms) Small 5.5" - 6.5" (140 - 165mm) Average 6.5" - 7.5" (165 - 191mm) Large More than 7.5" (191mm)

You can use the following calculator to calculate your BMI.  A higher or lower than desirable BMI potentially increases health risk.  Use only the 'imperial' or 'metric' calculator. You will automatically see the conversion on the other side.
